Soul Space Timeline 1999 - 2019
1999 ~Soul Space incorporated as a non-profit 501c3 with a mission to be a retreat center for women offering an inviting place, encouragement and avenues for spiritual renewal.
2000 ~ Logo designed. Space and furnishings on Sheridan Road secured. Marilyn Gehant facilitated focus groups and wisdom circles of women of Buddhist, Jewish, Muslim and Protestant faiths.
2001 ~ Sheridan Road space scheduled to open in the week prior to September 11, 2001.
2003-2007 ~ Thursday mid-day brown bag presentations. Topics included Jewish festivals of Elul, Sukkoth and Seder. Book of Ruth. Advent, Angels, Sojourner Truth. Aspects of Christian Faith. Ways of praying. Hindu spirituality. Quaker discernment. Women’s spiritual friendship. Prayer shawl knitting meditation. Reiki healing energy. Personal stories and sacred texts. Faith and doubt. Women convened in homes and church meetings rooms.
2008 ~ Creative Circle at Marilyn Gehant’s home on Thursday evenings.
2009 ~ Sunday retreats begin as interfaith panel presentations and small-table discussion.
2010 ~ Soul Space website launched by Marilyn Gehant (Catholic), Kismet Sağlam (Muslim) and Ellen Blum Barish (Jewish).
2012 ~ In the winter of 2012, Soul Space launched is spiritual literary ezine, Reflections
2013 ~ Weekend retreat in Wisconsin at Holy Wisdom Monastery led by Marilyn Gehant
2014 ~ Marilyn Gehant passes the directorship to Kismet Saglam
